NSW public schools offer Special Religious Education (SRE) and Special Ethics Education (SEE), delivered by approved providers.
At Hornsby Girls High School, Protestant SRE is offered and taught by an authorised teacher employed by the Normanhurst Christian Education Association (NCEA). The NCEA is represented by local churches, of various denominations, each of which is on the Department of Education’s list of approved providers.
SRE is delivered to students from Years 7-10. Lessons occur during timetabled lessons three times a term for Years 7-9, and twice a year for Year 10.
Topics are selected, and lessons prepared, with great care to reflect the different religious backgrounds and faiths of students. For more information about the SRE curriculum, visit WhySRE website.
After initial enrolment, students continue in the same arrangement each year unless a written notification of change is given to the Principal.
During the time that SRE classes are held, students who do not attend have the opportunity to do self-directed study, reading or homework completion in the Library.
