Student opportunities and activities
In a school such as Hornsby Girls High, all our students are gifted academically, and many of them are also multi-talented young women in the Creative and Performing Arts, in Sport, in School and Community Service activities, and in Leadership roles.
There are many co-curricular and extra-curricular activities in which our students may become involved to enrich their enjoyment of school life.
Please see our comprehensive list of activities available: HGHS Curricular & Extra Curricular Activities 2025.
Students can get involved in many Extra Curricular activities at Hornsby Girls High School including Enrichment Activities, Sport, and Mock Trial.
Our extra-curricular highlights
The Co-Curricular Music Program (CCMP).
Is the largest co-curricular program in the school involving approximately 350 student from year 7-12. The CCMP strives for excellence in education by providing student the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of ensembles suitable to their abilities and preferences. Student are encouraged to participate in the CCMP regardless of their musical experience becasue learning music, especially in a group setting has great benefits.
For Further information, please refer to our 2025 CCMP Handbook.
Extra Curricular Sports program
The Extra Curricula Sports program provides students with further opportunities outside of the standard school program to participate in regular physical activities.
The program offers a wide range of sporting activities to cater for the various interests, needs and abilities of our students. Students are able to participate in sporting activities at different levels.
Through providing trained staff and coaches to instruct students in the various sporting activities, Hornsby Girls High School offers a quality Extra Curricular Program that fosters positive values towards a physically active and healthy lifestyle and promotes the belief of life long physical activity.
Mock Trial
The state-wide Mock Trial Competition begins with over 400 State and Private schools each year. There are four qualifying rounds, followed by finals elimination rounds of the best sixty-four schools to qualify. Hornsby Girls High has often reached the elimination finals.
The Mock trial group provides a team of six for each trial. There are two witnesses, two barristers, a solicitor who instructs them, and a court official. Each mock trial is conducted after school, and occupies more than two and a half hours.
The Law Society provides a magistrate to adjudicate each trial. The Hornsby team is coached by Ms Madeleine Harkin, Legal Studies Teacher.
The students receive an excellent insight into law and court procedures, as well as thinking and reacting in pressure situations.

Student Representative Council
The Student Representative Council (SRC) consists of four to five representatives from Years 7 to 9. A further eight students are elected from Years 10 and 11. President and Vice-President of the SRC are chosen from this group.
In 2025, Angelina Chen is Head of SRC and Carina Quizon Deputy Head of SRC.
The aim of the SRC is to provide students with opportunities to develop their skills in student leadership. To this end, meetings are held regularly at school where the students discuss and action important issues.
Year representatives also enjoy contact with students from SRCs at other schools by attending forums, workshops, meetings and conferences.
