Principal's message
Hello and welcome to our school.
Hornsby Girls High School is an exciting place to learn!
Students love coming to our school. It is a vibrant place of teaching and learning.
The school curriculum has been developed to ensure that Quality Teaching and Learning is at the forefront of everything we do. Our High Potential and Gifted Education enable our students to develop their potential and to pursue their creativity and critical thinking which operates in every class each day. Our Student Wellbeing programs enable our girls to be fully supported in their learning through the use of positive philosophies which underpin all student activities. These proactive student wellbeing programs meet the specific needs of our Gifted and Talented girls.
The school places a strong emphasis on holistic learning and student leadership. This ensures that our girls develop into confident young women fully ready to take their place as leaders within their communities in academics, culture and sports.
Through a holistic learning approach students learn to know, learn to do, learn to be, learn to live together and learn to live sustainably. By emphasising these abilities we believe that our girls are well balanced individuals who are happy and self-motivated to achieve their personal best.
Our highly qualified teachers are passionate and enthusiastic educators who inspire our girls to achieve outstanding results not only in the New South Wales Higher School Certificate but also in additional academic, sports, cultural, environment and leadership programs.
Some examples of additional programs that encourage holistic learning at our school include: Duke of Edinburgh Awards Scheme, Friends of Recycling the Environment and Dirt (FRED), Science Clubs including Robotics, Maths enrichment programs, Café Gratitude, Charity and Social Justice Networks, High Resolves, Guitar and Ukulele Club, Minerva (school magazine), Aerobics Team, Chess Club, Band, Orchestra and Choir, SRC and Prefects, Garden Club and the Chess Club to name a few!
As a fully selective high school for girls we achieve outstanding HSC results with all students attending university on the completion of their studies. Sydney University, the University of New South Wales, Macquarie University, University of Technology Sydney and the University of Western Sydney are the main universities of choice. There are a growing number of students choosing the Australian National University, the University of New England and ‘Ivy League Universities' in the USA.
Our parent body represented by the Parents and Citizens is a highly dedicated team. They provide not only financial assistance to the school through fund raising activities but also help to bind our school community through community events. These include four ‘Grounds and Garden Days' each year, ‘Mother and Daughter Movie Nights' and the annual ‘Multicultural Fair' which helps to promote our 48 cultural groups who make up our proudly multicultural school.
Hornsby Girls High School has a long tradition of excellence in girls' education since 1930. A strong Old Girls Union maintains supporting links with the school. Our current school leaders in the SRC and Prefect Body enable an enthusiastic student voice in school practices. This ensures the strong school spirit and pride that is associated with our public school is continually enriched through democratic student leadership activities.
